TUESDAY’S TIP: TO DISCIPLINE OR NOT

In the aftermath of an NFL player being charged with child negligence and abuse, I want to touch on the subject of disciplining a child. Although I vehemently disagree with any type of abuse towards a child, I do believe in spanking a child when its totally necessary.

Different cultures and genders have vastly different ideas about discipline and every child is unique. I experienced many spankings, but my brother was sparred greatly. Many people believe in talking, taking away privileges and giving the child a break (taking a time out); therefore, I believe each parent in the household needs to be in agreement on discipline and know the pulse of their child.

We must depend on God to lead us on how to discipline our children. We should talk to them and explain that every action has consequences good or bad. I would suggest to NEVER strike a child in anger because you will go too far. So please calm your emotions, pray and allow the Grace of God to show you the proper discipline.

Keep an open line of communication. Discipline with love and Grace and you will be a wise parent instead of a shamed parent.

Love you guys, see you next week….

  1. Hey D,

    Awesome Blog!

Parents are able to know when they’re on the right path when discipling in love. The relationship with their child(ren) will become closer not distant, angry or bitter. This is one of the many misbeliefs passed down throughout the years! There is a better way. The Holy Spirit shared that our discipline as parents should help our children accept the Lord’s discipline because ultimately this is where they are headed as adults (Proverbs 3:11-12). In return, if we conduct discipline rightly it will bring forth the same love the Lord has with us in them. “For whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights (vs.12). My understanding is that discipline is not pleasant, no it will not be liked, but it is needed to learn the right way. At the same time, it should not remove love and delight between you, the Lord and your children.
